Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.
Just a reminder that April 30 is the last day to submit your projects for Class Act. So show us how your school is making a real difference in your community!
A fabulous trophy and $3,000 USD are up for grabs. Class Act is open to students (under 18 or turning 18 while in school) worldwide. If you have questions, just drop our Events Team a line at Events@theRandomAct.org.
We know you’re a class act already! Here’s your chance to show us.
Planning to join us at the Salute to Supernatural Convention in Arlington, Virginia on May 2-4? Random Acts will be rocking a table this year at #DCCon. Stop by to say hello and to check out what we have going on. You never know who you might meet.
Our partner for #DCCon this year is SOME (So Others Might Eat,) an interfaith group serving those in need in the DC area. SOME serves 1,000 meals daily and, through their other programs, they work to help the people they serve become self-sufficient.
We’ll also be inviting three lucky supporters to join us as we Spread SOME Kindness on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Our three ‘helpers’ will join us as we volunteer at SOME serving lunch.
If you’re interested in participating, you can enter to win a chance to join the Random Acts team as they serve SOME very deserving people: https://podio.com/webforms/7713313/582855.
The contest ends April 24, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Only one entry per person please. Participants will be chosen at random and notified by Saturday, April 26th. You can find out more about the contest by visiting our website.
P.S. Even if you can’t join us at #DCCon, it doesn’t mean you can’t spread SOME love. Just drop by SOME’s website to find out how you can donate.
We’re honored to be included as one of the charity recipients in this year’s Hollywood Charity Horse Show on April 26.
On behalf of everyone here at Random Acts, we’d like to send a big virtual hug to William Shatner and a hearty good luck in this year’s GISHWHES.
P.S. Lots of luck tormenting What’s His Name whoever that may be.
Random Holiday Alert: April 16 is National Librarian Day!
We hope you’ll take a few minutes today to give a shout out to your local librarians and that you’ll send a little kindness their way. The sock monkeys are celebrating by not rearranging the books in the Random Acts library so that our Co-Founder and unofficial librarian doesn’t have to worry about their book-related antics.
We hope you’ll share your stories and photos with us by tagging #theRandomAct.org and #GetKind. And that you’ll have a great day whether or not you rock the Dewey Decimal System for a living.
Hamish, our Supernatural pig, has returned from his whirlwind tour of the shopping malls in Vancouver with a taste for snacks. He’s been scouring Random Act’s kitchen for popcorn, kale chips, and pie, but nothing seems to satisfy him like your love and adoration.
If you’d like to #FEEDTHEPIG this week, drop by our blog to take the trivia quiz. You might even want to show Hamish a little love on Crowdrise. Thanks to your generous support, we’re almost up to $3,500 in donations.
Half of the money we collect through FEEDTHEPIG will be donated to the Jacmel Children’s Center in Haiti and the other half will be used by Random Acts to fund acts of kindness throughout the year.
Although you can only #FEEDTHEPIG on Crowdrise for points during playable weeks, you can donate to help Random Acts and the Jacmel Children’s Center anytime.
P.S. If you want to find out more about this one-of-a-kind, handpainted,Supernatural-themed piggy bank signed by our fearless Co-Founder, Misha Collins, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, visit our website.
P.S.S. Hamish “signed” this autograph just for you! Keep it somewhere safe. Hamish says someday it will be worth a lot.
Conquering the world with kindness takes a lot of time, patience, and help! That’s why we’re looking for an abnosome* Events Officer and someone to rock our world in IT.
If you’d like to join us in making the world a better place one random act of kindness at a time, just drop by our website. You can email our HR Manager if you have questions at HR@theRandomAct.org.
We’d love to have you as part of our team!
Can’t get enough of #GetKind? Well, here’s your chance to join us in a random act of awesomeness each Monday. We’re calling it Monday’s Mission.
Your mission for this week (should you choose to accept it) is to make someone a kindness card using macaroni and glitter. You can use things other than macaroni and glitter (say, delicious kale or possibly a few rhinestones) but you must include at least one piece of macaroni and enough glitter to cover our fearless Co-Founder’s tiara.
Share your card with someone who could use a smile, and then tag your pic with #theRandomAct.org and #GetKind. We’ll be sharing a few of our favorites here later this week.
So get to decorating! We can’t wait to see what you create.
Random holiday alert: It’s National Volunteer Week!
We hope you’ll take time this weekend to help the helpers, those people who give their time and energy to make the world a little kinder. Buy a cup of Joe for a shelter worker, offer to help sort clothes at your local donation center, or anonymously send a pizza to the staff at your local animal shelter. Sometimes just saying thank you can make someone’s day a little brighter.
And while you’re handing out kindness, don’t forget yourself! We’d like to say thanks to all of you for helping us conquer the world one random act of kindness at a time. You’re our heroes.
Have a great weekend.
P.S. Don’t forget about Caught in the Act. If you see someone who is doing something exceptionally kind, be sure to let us know how they were ‘Caught in the Act.’
You don’t have to know them personally. All you need to know is that their kindness is an inspiration.
Consider this simple truth: If we all do one random act of kindness daily, that’s 365 random acts of kindness in a year for each and every person.
Every act of kindness counts - no matter the size. Open a door, send someone a kind anonymous comment, pick up some litter, or just smile. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make the most difference.
So let’s get out there and do some good this weekend and every, single day. We are conquering the world one random act of kindness at a time.
